Dr. Omolola Salako, affectionately known as “The People’s Oncologist,” is a visionary oncologist, storyteller, and healthcare innovator dedicated to transforming cancer care in Africa. As the founder of Pearl Oncology Specialist Hospital, Sebeccly Cancer Care and Support Centre, and Oncopadi Technologies, she has impacted the lives of thousands through groundbreaking healthcare solutions, holistic cancer care, and digital health innovations.
Throughout her career, Dr. Salako has provided preventive care services to over 30,000 individuals, cared for 5,000 cancer patients, and supported their families with compassionate and comprehensive treatment. Her leadership has also extended to advising over 100 CEOs and healthcare leaders, helping them achieve their organisational goals through strategic direction and visionary insights.
Her journey into oncology began with a personal loss, as she lost her sister to cancer. This experience fueled her passion to pioneer initiatives that combine advanced medical treatments with emotional and spiritual support. At Pearl Oncology, she leads a team providing world-class services in prevention, diagnosis, and survivorship for over 2,000 patients and families since its establishment in 2021.
Dr. Salako is the founding Director of the Digital Health Hub at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and leads the Digital Oncology Research Group. She drives advancements in areas like digital health innovations, patient-reported outcomes, and breast cancer biomarkers. Her work has been funded by globally renowned organisations, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the UK Medical Research Council.
She also hosts the Cancer on the Street Podcast, a platform that educates the public about cancer prevention and treatment through personal stories, expert insights, and practical tips. With a mission to share 1 million African cancer stories, the podcast inspires action and awareness across the continent.
